Is it too easy to track down an ear worm nowadays?

Not so long ago, if you’d told someone they could hear a song they liked, find out its name and have it blasting from a gadget slightly bigger than a matchbox in a matter of seconds, their minds may well have blown.

The question ‘what the hell IS that song?’ is easily solved nowadays. Gone is the need to launch a full-scale investigation in the hope of tracking down that brilliant tune you heard in a club, bar or on the radio.

Squawking your own rendition into the ear of a DJ to see if they can identify it just isn’t necessary, and nor is endless raking through record store racks.

And the smug satisfaction of finally finding said tune and proudly adding it to your collection is a thing of the past.

If your ears take a liking to something now, all you need do is whip out your smartphone and let an app do the detective work.

Quick and easy as this is, maybe it could be argued modern technology taken some of the fun out of music-collecting.  What do you reckon? Do you prefer the quick-fix of streaming your top tunes,  or would you rather keep it old skool and take your time to track it down.

Below: “My Love is for Real” – the considerably less successful single from 90s dance floor heroes Strike. I spent several months hunting this down.  Not sure why.
